- Availability Issues: During busy periods, there can be a severe shortage of rental vehicles, leading tourists to either pay inflated prices or find alternative solutions (Reddit post).
- Safety Concerns: Various tourists express safety concerns when renting vehicles in unfamiliar regions, especially motorcycles, due to different driving conditions and risks.

Visiting the Bay Area in a Rental Car
r/bayarea - August 11, 2023
If you plan to visit the Bay Area and are renting a car, you need to know these things. Everyone can recognize a rental car because of the white registration sticker and thieves will target you. If you have an out-of-state license plate thieves will target you. A rental car registration sticker is white in California unlike the rotating sticker colors for regular owners. Someone should stay by the car at all times to prevent break ins.
Rental car vs train- tourists

Hello all! I am planning a Switzerland trip with my husband by April. First time for both of us. Should we get a rental car from Zurich Airport or enjoy the views from the train. What are the pros and cons of a rental car. I know some villages do not allow cars. We will be in the Interlaken, Grindewald area. Will we get the same scenic views via driving.
Radar speeding tickets as tourist in rental car?
r/Brazil - November 22, 2023
Rented a car while here visiting family. Dunno if it matters, but I’m a citizen, so not technically a foreign tourist. Never driven in Brazil before, neither has my family. In America, speeding is enforced by cops sitting on the side of the road with a radar and they pull you over if you get caught. Apparently not the case in Brazil. Was riding with my friend and he kept slowing down when Waze told him it was a radar area.
Car rental advice needed for a tourist
r/AskIreland - April 27, 2024
I need some help with car rental. I am travelling to Ireland in the summer but I only have my full driver's licence for 18 months (by the time I travel to Ireland). I am >30 years old. I noticed all the car rental companies I look up state you must have your driver's licence for at least 2 years (some even state 4 years!). Does anyone know if there is a car rental company in Ireland that accepts driver's with less than 2 years?
To all the tourists wanting to drive their rental cars to Leavenworth, DO NOT DO IT.

Listen to the state gov and do not attempt to drive across the passes unless it’s an emergency and you are prepared for it. Chains, extra clothing, boots, food, and be reasonably healthy.

For 19.95 you can rent this mothafucka! Isn't that just the base price for Uhauls? I believe they charge mileage as well.
r/news - April 26, 2021
I went to BC Canada during the summer and every rental company was booked solid. Only thing I could find was a u-haul Ford F250. Cashier goes through the lists and asks 'Do you know how to drive a big truck? Oh wait you're American, nevermind.' That part kind of made me chuckle.

Tourists avoid Hertz Car rental - Cairns Airport
r/Cairns - February 5, 2024
Just a heads up for any locals or tourists that use rental car companies from Cairns airport. In the last few months I’ve had the pleasure of being in Cairns a few times. I’ve rented cars from Avis, Sixt, and Europcar with no issues. This time I went with Hertz. Upon returning the car, I was charged a $500 fee not long after with claims the car smelt like cigarette smoke. As a non smoker I am somewhat dumbfounded.

And do not stop anywhere near the Oakland airport for gas or coffee on your way to your airport with all your luggage. Bippers don't necessarily even care if you're standing next to the vehicle or not. And do not store your passport in your luggage. I remained baffled that people do that. Leaving everything concealed in the trunk is not sufficient protection, either.

Take the train! it's great.

They'll know that the license plate is associated to the rental company, and the rental company will most likely charge your card automatically.

Stuff That Confuse You About Tourists in Your Country/Area
r/travel - November 4, 2023
What are some stuff that confused you about people who come to where you live? I live in Norway, and it confuses me to see tourists spend hours in cars or buses just to step out to look at the mountains and buy souvenirs. To me, mountains are for walking in and the ocean is for swimming. Why would you subject yourself to hours of uncomfortable travel and not take the opportunity to stretch your legs and truly explore?
